    Schwarzman Scholars

    The "Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University" program is the most important leadership training program since the Rhodes Scholarship, which also focuses on leadership, was set up in 1902. This program aims to gather the world's most brilliant young people to discuss and understand China's peaceful development and rise.

      The program provides a one-year graduate education for excellent graduates from the world's top universities. This is a good opportunity for students to understand and get familiar with brilliant young people from various countries, preparing themselves to become leaders with global vision and capabilities of harnessing global competition.
    • Core Idea

      The program sticks to the principle of "standing in China and facing the world". It studies universal challenges to global development from China's perspective against a globalized backdrop. The program centers on improving leadership, cultivating critical thinking, providing a unique opportunity of viewing China from all angles, and enhancing global vision.
    • Objective

      The objective of the program is to train future leaders that have global vision, solid comprehensive capabilities, and strong leadership to facilitate human civilization and progress as well as peace and development. The program will promote dialog and understanding between China and other countries, benefiting global cooperation, competition, and stability.
    • Contents

      There are three specialties in the programs, and students are required to study full time for one year. The program publicly hired 10 chair professors on one-year contracts. Candidates were internationally eminent scholars or global top experts in various industries. Chair professors also work as supervisors of students.
    • Groundbreaking Partners

      Groundbreaking partners refer to donors that have contributed 25 million US dollars or more to the program. They are the highest-level supporters of the program. These donations are used for the program's most distinctive, eye-catching, and heavily utilized physical spaces, including the student forum, library, dining hall, auditorium, and international conference center.
    • Founding Partners

      Founding partners refer to donors that have donated 10 million US dollars or more to the program. These donations are vital for the program and are used for heavily utilized spaces within buildings, like student dormitories, the front courtyard, the inner courtyard, and discussion rooms.

    International Advisory Committee

    The program has an international advisory committee made up of international experts on politics, economics, social studies, science, and art, for example, Tony Blair (former British Prime Minister), Nicolas Sarkozy (former French President), Henry Kissinger (former US Secretary of State), and Chen Ning Yang (Nobel physics laureate).

    Program Profile

    Launch Ceremony

    On the afternoon of April 21, 2013, the launch ceremony for the "Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University" program was held in the Great Hall of the People. Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Obama sent their respective congratulation letters. Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong attended and spoke at the ceremony.
